Coc ly the colorful market on tuesday on the bank of Chay river

The market operates on Tuesday and is one of the small markets of the distric of Bac ha ( Can Cau on Saturday, Bac Ha on Sunday, Cao son on Wednesday, Lung Khau nhin on Thursday). The market operates on Tuesday and is one of the small markets of the distric of Bac ha ( Can Cau on Saturday, Bac Ha on Sunday, Cao son on Wednesday, Lung Khau nhin on Thursday). From Lao cai station you take the road 70 direct to Bao Nhai, just 5 km before the cross to Bac ha, you turn left and drive about 30 minutes.
The road is small but rather good, the scenery around is so fantastic. Here the geography is of karts mountains with hills. There are some minority tribes living for years, mostly Hmong or Miao, from Han-Tibet group, stabilized about 400 years ago. The Hmong in this district of Bac ha is named Flower Hmong ( Mong Hoa) because of their colorful clother, red, rose, and white indaco.

Flower H'mong of Lao Cai Province (above and right) are undoubtedly the most colourful of all branches of H'mong to be seen in Vietnam. They wear a colourful embroidered calf length skirt together with a highly embroidered jacket with a clasp under the right shoulder. Although also seen around Tam Duong, you will be jostling with hundreds of these ladies if you venture to Bac Ha market on a Sunday.

There are also Tay people living in the lower land, they wear black indigodyed clothes and there are many groups.

T he Tay/Thai is one of the largest language groups in Vietnam totalling about 3 million people. In the region they are related to the Shan in Myanmar and the Zhuang and Pu Yi in southern China in addition to the Thais and Laos. The Tay with a population of 1.2 million make up the largest section of the group, but more often than not wear clothes identical to modern Viet Kinh. The Thai number over a million and the Nung 700,000. Generally the Thai people live to the South West of the Red River and the Tay and Nung to the North East. Both groups are famous for their weaving and live in stilt houses. Other groups belonging to this language family include the Giay, Lu, San Chay, Tu Di and Bo Y. Chinese, Phu la and Daoz black also make up the minority groups

Dzao with black clothes can be met at Coc ly market, but there are more in the Lai chau province..

Phu la ladies at Bac ha distric, you can meet them in the sunday market of Bac ha, but very rare in Coc ly market.

Along the road, there are some small villages with house made of soil mixed with straw. People live on maiz cultivated on the slope of hilles and some small terrace rice fields, but not good crop.
In general, they have poor living standard.
The market was used to be nice and wild, but recently one hydro electric is built just right the market, and make it under water. The Tibet bridge is changed with one cement big one, and take a road to new place market on the top of one hill. There are still many people and maybe bigger market, but we lost the natural one, and the scenery is changed absolutely.
In the past we could take the long motor steel boat just right corner of the market downwards Bao nhai road, and visit Trung do Village of Tay people. But nowadays, there is not regular water for boat, and this trip often cancelled during drought season.
What a pity! The Trung do village of the Tay ethnic is not beautiful as the past one, since the road bigger made until the middle of the villages.

they also organize lunch in the village or at their own houses.
