 Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon (Vietnamese: Vương cung thánh đường Chính tòa Đức Bà Sài Gòn or Nhà thờ Đức Bà Sài Gòn; French: Basilique-Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Saigon), officially Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception (Vietnamese: Vương cung thánh đường Chính tòa Đức Mẹ Vô nhiễm Nguyên tội; French: Basilique-Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l'Immaculée Conception) is a cathedral located in the downtown of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Established by French colonists who initially named it Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Saïgon, the cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. It has two bell towers, reaching a height of 58 meters (190 feet).

The old name of Ho Chi Minh city was Sai gon, according to some historical hypotheses, that derives from the name of tree "Bong Gon", the name of one village, the chinese name of one destination. 

 

During the 17 century, vietnam was in civil war between the lords, the family of Trinh in the north and the family of Nguyen in the south. Hoi an became the most important port in the central Vietnam for the growth of Nguyen family.

Hoi an was very crowed port with many foreign boats from different countries as Japan, Holand, China, etc.
